Initial Consultation and Inspection
Years of weatherization slowly turned this beloved deck into an unsightly space and a legitimate safety hazard. When this homeowner realized their stairs were rotting out, they knew it was going to be a major project. After calling Two Day Painting to take a look, our initial inspection identified that the structure was overall good, but still required repairs to the stairs, railing, and decking. When taking into consideration the cost of repairs, continued cost of staining and maintaining the deck long term – it was clear that the best value for the customer was to consider converting to composite. Ultimately that is the route they chose, and they were extremely happy with the decision.

Design Agreement and Final Measure
When discussing different material options, the customer wanted something that would last long term and look beautiful. They selected TimberTech Terrain in Brown Oak color for the main surface boards, fascia, and stairs. This specific material carries a 25-year warranty! For a contrast, they chose Natural White for the picture-frame borders and stair accents. To perfectly tie the colors together, we installed a Westbury Tuscany railing in Black Fine Texture, topped with a matching Natural White drink rail.
After all the materials, colors, and design were finalized, we ordered all the materials and orchestrated their delivery to the jobsite for installation, along with a dumpster to dispose the old debris.

Removal of Old Materials
Now the fun begins! The Two Day team began by removing all the old, weathered wooden boards and disposing them in the on-site dumpster we provided. Because the original staircase was structurally unstable, we completely tore it down and rebuilt it from scratch. To ensure the staircase would sit on a solid foundation, we removed the old landing and poured new concrete footers.

Installation of Composite Decking
The composite boards and stairs were carefully cut to perfectly fit the deck space. The decking boards on the deck were installed using a hidden fastening system, where the screws are placed between the boards and out of sight. This makes an extremely clean look. Next, the railings were installed, including a gate with a latch above the new staircase for additional safety. One of our favorite touches was adding a “drink-rail” on top of the railing to provide extra surface to accommodate the homeowners favorite refreshments. Lastly, the Two Day Team replaced the old lattice with new, composite lattice for an updated look with minimal upkeep.

Completion and Walk Through
The final walkthrough was the perfect conclusion to this project, giving the homeowners a chance to see their dream outdoor space fully realized. In only a few days, the Two Day team successfully added support posts, built a brand-new staircase, laid down the new composite boards, installed secure railings, and updated the lattice. The homeowners were thrilled with the transformation, and their new 25-year warranty ensures this beautiful investment is protected for decades.

Upgrading to a composite deck doesn’t just give you the freedom to custom-design your outdoor space, it also frees you from the endless cycle of sanding and staining every other year. The cost savings from that with the new added value make this service a wonderful option to our customers. Ready to start your own deck transformation?
