From Endless Staining to More Entertaining: A Maintenance-Free Composite Deck Upgrade in Waukesha

Initial Consultation and Inspection
The Two Day Painting team met with a family in Waukesha to discuss options for their current deck. With a rotted out wooden staircase, they were ready to make a change to avoid the annual dread of restaining. They wanted a composite deck that not only looked great in their yard, but was also practical. Although the conversion to composite would take a bit of extra carpentry with their deck, they decided it would be worth it to have a beautiful, maintenance free deck for decades.
Design Agreement and Final Measure
To bring a natural, rustic look to the backyard, the homeowners chose Trex Enhance Naturals-Golden Hour for the deck floor, stairs, and cladding/risers and the Westbury Tuscany Aluminum-Bronze for the railing. For an added touch, a drink rail was added to the railing to enjoy refreshments on the new composite deck. The drink rail matches the composite boards to pull everything together.
Removal of Old Materials
The crew removed the wooden boards from the deck and disposed of them in the onsite dumpster. Although the initial inspection showed that additional joists would be needed to safely support the composite boards, a second inspection proved that the existing framework was in solid condition. Extra joists were added by the Two Day team prior to installing the composite deck boards.
Installation of Composite Decking
After joist tape was installed to prolong the life of the deck, composite boards were precisely measured and cut to be placed on the newly-secure structure. Because the existing steps had rotted away, we were able to build a brand new, solid set of stairs for the homeowners. The drink railing was installed on one end of the deck, and an updated, built-in bench on the other end for an ideal gathering space with family and friends.
Completion and Walk Through
Upon completion of the project, the homeowners did a final walk through with the Two Day Painting project manager. They were incredibly pleased that we were able to complete the additional carpentry work to create an outdoor space that works with their lifestyle. With their new composite stairs, deck, drink railing, and bench, they have a beautiful, functional space that will last for years to come.
