A Mequon Deck Transformed: Trading Constant Staining for Maintenance Free Luxury
Jun 02, 2026Every homeowner with a wood deck knows the routine. Every two to three years, the dread sets in: it’s time to power wash, sand, stain, and seal. For one family in Mequon, that exhausting, costly cycle had finally run its course. They wanted their weekends back, and they wanted a beautiful outdoor living space that didn’t come with a running to-do list.
That is when they called in the team at Two Day Painting.

Initial Consultation and Inspection
During our initial consultation, we thoroughly inspected the deck’s existing framing to ensure it was structurally sound. Because the underlying frame and foundation was in great shape, we knew we could save the client a lot of money long-term by resurfacing with composite instead of building entirely from scratch. A detailed quote was provided and we answered all the questions they had to ensure they felt compatible with their decision.

Design Agreement and Final Measure
To help them visualize the upgrade, we brought a curated selection of premium composite decking and railing samples right to their Mequon home. There was no need for them to drive out to a busy warehouse just to guess how a color might look under the actual afternoon sun in their yard. After comparing options in the context of their own landscape, they selected a stunning color palette: Trex Toasted Sand for the flooring and cladding and Westbury Tuscany Black fine texture for the railing.

Removal of Old Materials
With the consultation, inspection, and design complete, it was time to get to work! Two Day Painting removed the old, wood materials and disposed of them in a dumpster on-site to keep the yard clean. One more inspection of the current structure was performed before adding on any new material.

Installation of Composite Decking
Prior to adding any composite decking, joist tape is placed on the existing beams. This helps to lock out moisture and guarantee the deck lasts for decades. The Two Day team precisely measured, cut, and laid the new composite boards over the reinforced frame. To achieve a sleek, continuous surface, we used a hidden fastening system, securing the decking from beneath the boards without any visible screws. We even installed handrails to the stairs for added safety!

Completion and Final Walk Through
The final walkthrough said it all. What was once a source of high-maintenance stress is now a beautiful, maintenance free retreat. No more splinters, no more fading, and absolutely no more staining. Now, the only thing this Mequon family has to worry about on the weekend is deciding what to grill.
