Before After

1. Initial Consultation and Inspection

During the original consultation with the customer, Two Day Painting thoroughly inspected all visible  components of the deck and confirmed the integrity of the overall structure was solid. This is not always the case, in which we cannot always provide this service. Fortunately, this deck was an excellent candidate to convert the old wood decking to beautiful maintenance-free composite. After listening to the customer’s concerns and hearing about their continuous frustrations with the deck, it was clear the composite decking conversion was the right choice for them.

2. Design Agreement and Final Measure

With several samples to choose from, the homeowners decided to use Trex Enhance in Cinnamon Cove for the flooring and Westbury Tuscany aluminum railings in a prefinished Black fine texture to create a modern look. To finish it off, a black composite lattice was added on the lower exposure to conceal the underside. Due to previous issues of critters getting under the deck, Two Day Painting even installed pest wire behind the lattice to better prevent those buggers from getting back there. Sheesh!

3. The Pre-Construction Meeting

Before work commenced, final confirmations were made with material selections. After which, production dates were set and all materials were ordered. All materials were then delivered to the jobsite, as well as a dumpster to dispose of all the old debris.

4. Demolition

Now the fun began! Two Day Painting removed all the old wooden deck boards and disposed of them in the dumpster that was on site to keep the yard clean and free from debris. The structure’s framing was once again inspected to confirm if any repairs were needed. In this case, everything looked good and it was time to move on to the next step.. However, if damage was found in the form of wood rot, we would have brought attention to the customer and made the necessary repairs before moving forward.

5. Installation of Composite Decking and Aluminum Railing

Prior to installing the composite boards, joist tape was added to the existing deck to prevent future moisture intrusion and further prolong the life of the structural system. To securely attach the composite deck boards while maintaining a clean seamless finish, we use a hidden fastening system by tucking screws between the boards. This keeps them out of sight.

6. Completion and Walk Through

Once the project was completed, the project manager performed a final inspection alongside the homeowners to ensure our work met their expectations and they were happy with the final product.

In only 3 days, this deck was transformed into a modern, sleek space for the homeowners to enjoy. No more having to deal with failing coatings and staining every year, no more having to continuously replace old, rotting boards, no more catching splinters in their feet, and no more unsightly aesthetics.
