Hubertus Composite Deck Transformation
Apr 16, 2026As decks age, most homeowners become tired of the continuously increasing cost of maintenance. Not to mention it’s aesthetic slowly turns into a dated eyesore that’s far outlived its golden years. This is common in Wisconsin because the weather here is extremely brutal on decks, and the reason why many homeowners assume their only option at some point is to face a total demolition. At Two Day Painting, we believe in a smarter approach. This most recent project shows how we took a weathered, multi-level cedar deck and transformed it into a modern composite masterpiece using a proven process that ensures a long lasting maintenance-free solution.
Step 1: The Initial Consultation & Inspection
It begins with a meeting on-site. Our team sat down with these Hubertus, WI homeowners to inspect their aging wood deck. While the top planking was rotting, our inspection revealed that the foundation was still strong. We discussed their vision: a low-maintenance, high-style space that keeps their original design and unique accessibility needs across three different levels in mind. The customer especially loved the added value it brought to their home and the long-term savings as it eliminated the costly and exhausting maintenance needs.

Step 2: Design Agreement & Final Measure
With the vision set, we moved into the planning phase. We selected Trex Enhance composite decking in the warm, inviting Cinnamon Cove. This color mimics the original wood color without the constant need for staining. We also selected Westbury Aluminum Railings to match the classy aesthetic and provide an overall safer and more sturdy railing. To ensure a perfect fit, we performed a final measure and sat down with the homeowners to review the proposal and paperwork, finalizing everything down to the last detail before a single board was ordered.

Step 3: The Pre-Construction Meeting
Before a single tool was pulled out, our project managers held a Pre-Construction meeting. We walked the property one more time to confirm details and set expectations. This step allows us to make any final pivots before materials are ordered, ensuring total alignment between our crew and the homeowner. We coordinate delivery of initial materials and delivery of a dumpster.

Step 4: Demolition!
Then, the real work began. With a dumpster on site, our crew moved into demolition, carefully removing the old, rotting cedar boards to make way for the new composite. All structure foundation was inspected and repaired as needed, while further prepping all surfaces and applying rubberized joist tape to provide increased protection against moisture to extend the life of the deck’s substructure.
Step 5: The Construction Phase
Finally, the fun part! After all demolition, repairs, and prep is complete, we begin the installation of the composite decking. To create a sleek surface, we utilized a hidden fastening system, tucking the screws beneath the boards for a clean, uninterrupted finish. Once decking was installed we moved on to the aluminum railing system. Throughout the build, our Project Manager provided daily updates, and ensured the quality met our “Top Notch” standard.

Step 6: Completion & The Walkthrough
As the project neared the finish line, we didn’t just pack up and leave. Our Project Manager walked the jobsite with the homeowner to ensure their satisfaction and create a “punch list” of anything they wanted us to address. After we completed the project our team cleaned up and removed all remaining debris, leaving a clean jobsite. We turned the site over to the homeowner and provided warranty information and tips on how to keep the composite decking and Aluminum railing looking brand new for years to come.

The Customer’s Final Word:
Google Review: “We found Two Day Painting that would replace the top planking rather than doing a complete rebuild… The crew came every day despite some cold weather. Very dedicated to complete the job and the quality was great. Our job was a little different since we needed ramps for each of the three levels. They had no problem getting this done. Everything was top notch from estimating to completed project.”
